The USSR?

Debatable. But it is ok because the US beat them too in a war of attrition because big big wallets.

Not really debatable no... It's been recognized a long time ago by historians that without the USSR attacking their side of Germany, allies would have failed "Le Débarquement". In 1945, over 60% of German forces were set on the Eastern Front...
Not forgetting that they are the ones who suffered the highest amount of casualties with close to 9 millions deaths... Yet, it seems like americans enjoy "remembering" their awesomness and victory, totally ommitting that THEY might be speaking germans too today if it were not for all the "communist soviets" they hate so much that sacrificed themselves...

There was also a little dust up with Japan, but that was just a footnote in the context of the entire conflict; hardly worth mentioning.

Hitler certainly made a mistake attacking the USSR. He also made a mistake diverting his forces to Stalingrad when he could have taken Moscow with his surpass Blitzkrieg. You forget though that the United States fought on two fronts as well and had to defeat the Japanese (killing on average 200,000 people for every month the empire reined) almost single handily without ally intervention. I was not making this post to undermine the involvement of the rest of the allies. Everyone played their part in the defeat of the third reich.

Rather irrelevant when reviewing the European part of the war. This is a post about Germany after all.

I was taught that it was World War II, not European War II. But Sweden sat out, so I don't really know.

I doubt we would have been speaking German...but yeah you are correct that the majority of German forces were on the eastern front; furthermore, of the 40% on the western front many were not exactly top tier troops, Osttruppen, new recruits, and old men.

I know, nothing against you in particular... It's just a bit tiring (I'm french) when dealing with americans in their twenties that had absolutly NOTHING to do with WW2 but can't help themselves openning their mouth at how much we should not say anything or criticize the US because "without the US now you'd be speaking german!" Totally forgetting what the other countries have done, and omitting the USSR/Russia, that we never hear all over internet blasting at how they "saved the world"...
To see this kind of picture after a soccer world is, I think, misplaced and should not have its place here... But I'm guessing now we can just go on twitter with numerous idiots talking about how "nazis" did not really win and how the US always wins... I know you don't mean anything bad, but I still wanted you to know that I find this kind of post a bit stupid...

Well had nazi-germany taken control of Europe, I doubt they would have stopped there...

It is a bit stupid but sometimes there is comedy through stupidity. I didn't mean for it to be taken seriously or cause offense so if I did either I am sorry.

Gonna star this, but don't forget that a big winner was also old man winter hindering the Germans.
Also, don't let the casualty numbers fool you. The citizens of the USSR payed a huge price, no question. But many of them were untrained soldiers with no weapons sent to the slaughterhouse.

Although I certainly agree with you about facts you state here about Russia being the 'Liberator' as well, the fact the USSR suffered that much deaths is something all historians agree with is partly Stalin to blame for as well: during the Great Purge (30's) some 700.000 Russians were executed. Lots of military officers as well, which made the army poorly led in the first years of the war. That in combination with the NKVD killing lots of poorly trained/equiped Russian soldiers themself (there's a brilliant scene about that in Enemy at the Gates if I remember correct) is something that raised the number of deaths significantly.
